Vivek Wadhwa – Your Happiness was HACKED – New Book – out now

Each of us relates to technology in a unique, highly personal way, but there is growing evidence that most of us, especially younger people are addicted to our phones.  To combat this some tech giants are announcing measurements to help mobile addicts. Facebook and Instagram will soon start letting people see how much time they are spending on their apps, while Apple’s Screen Time and Google’s Digital Wellbeing will tell you how many times you pick up your phone, how often you use certain apps, how many notifications you get and also give you the ability to limit your time on your apps. The average time spent online (not including calls and texts) on a smartphone is two hours, 28 minutes a day: for those aged 18 – 24; it is three hours, 14 minutes.

So it is really an apt time for Mr Vivek Wadhwa and Alex Salkever to bring out their new book ‘Your Happiness Was Hacked: Why Tech Is Winning the Battle to Control Your Brain—and How to Fight Back’.  This book is a fascinating evidence-based read that highlights the negative effects of modern digital technology on our work and lives and suggests changes in the technology-human interface to improve our well-being. Every chapter has an example or scientific fact that should resonate with you and ends with a path for controlling the technology rather than having technology control us. A must-read.

“Technology is a great servant but a terrible master. This is the most important book ever written about one of the most significant aspects of our lives—the consequences of our addiction to online technology and how we can liberate ourselves and our children from it.” —Dean Ornish, M.D. Founder & President, Preventive Medicine Research Institute, Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCSF, Author, The Spectrum
