RACHEL BOTSMAN

Rachel Botsman is an author and a visiting academic at the University of Oxford, Saïd Business School. Her work focuses on how technology is enabling trust in ways that are changing the way we live, work, bank and consume. She defined the theory of “collaborative consumption” in her first book, What’s Mine Is Yours, which she co-authored with Roo Rogers. BIOGRAPHY

Global Authority on a New Era of Trust; Author, “Who Can You Trust?” (Hachette, November 2017); Visiting Lecturer & Researcher, Oxford University. Rachel studies and teaches how technology is transforming human relationships and what it means for life, work and how we do business.

In her first highly acclaimed book, “What’s Mine is Yours (HarperCollins, 2010), she defined the theory of collaborative consumption, which articulates the shift in consumer values from ownership to access. The concept was subsequently named by TIME as one of the “Ten Ideas That Will Change the World” and by Thinkers50 as the 2015 Breakthrough Idea. She designed and teaches the world’s first MBA course on the subject at Oxford University’s Saïd School of Business.

Her newest book, “Who Can You Trust?” reveals that we are at the tipping point of one of the biggest social transformations in human history. While trust in all kinds of institutions is collapsing, the rise of new technologies is enabling what she calls the age of “distributed trust” across networks of people, organizations and intelligent machines.

An engaging storyteller and visionary thinker, Rachel’s skill lies in discovering and explaining paradigm shifts happening in the world and making them meaningful to a wide range of audiences. Her TED talks have been viewed more than three million times and she was named as one of the world’s top 20 speakers to keynote your conference by Monocle.

She is a regular writer and commentator in leading international publications including Harvard Business Review, Economist, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Wired and more. Rachel was recognized as one of the “Most Creative People in Business” by Fast Company, a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum and is part of Thinkers50 2016 Radar list of up-and-coming management thinkers.

She received her BFA (Hons) from the University of Oxford and attended Harvard University for her post-graduate studies.

The audience scored Rachel 4.84 out of 5.00. That’s amazing.! She helped to more than double the attendance of the conference this year over last.
