Lumiar Schools are democratic schools formed for children between the age of 0 to 14 years with the aim of  transforming Education. This form of education was created by Ricardo Semler in 2002 as an initiative to transform childhood education in the world.

The first school was born in the city of São Paulo, and today and there are six Lumiar schools in operation. One in São Paulo, Poços de Caldas, Sto Antonio do Pinhal, Porto Alegre and Lageado in Brazil an one in Kent and Stowford in the UK.

The goal of Lumiar is to educate a group of children collective while respecting each individual child’s talents, personality and needs.

The school teaches its students how to learn differently, for example instead of simply memorising formulas, equations and dates, they teach their students differently.

Lumiar has been disrupting education, changing precepts previously considered essential in a school, such as grades, classes defined by age groups, hierarchical relationship between teacher /student, plastered curriculum, classes organised by subjects, among others.
