“I’m fascinated by A.I. and the future of life. There’s been much talk about A.I. disrupting the job market and enabling new weapons, but very few scientists talk seriously about the elephant in the room: what will happen once machines outsmart us at all tasks? That’s why I wrote [Life 3.0], to help you join the most important conversation of our time.”
Max Tegmark is a Professor at the Department of Physics at MIT where he researches physics and Artificial Intelligence.
In his spare time, he is also President of the Future of Life Institute which aims to ensure that we develop not only technology but also the wisdom required to use it beneficially.” He is also the scientific Director of the Foundational Questions Institute.
Max is predominately known for his unorthodox ideas and passion for adventure.
His research has ranged from cosmology to the physics of cognitive systems, and is currently focused at the interface between physics, AI and neuroscience. His scientific interests range from precision cosmology to the ultimate nature of reality, which he explored in his popular book Our Mathematical Universe: my quest for the ultimate nature of reality (2014).
Max Tegmark is also the author of over 200 publications and the bestsellers Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Our Mathematical Universe: My Quest for the Ultimate Nature of Reality. His work with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey on galaxy clustering shared the first prize in Science magazine’s “Breakthrough of the Year: 2003.”
